Life Insurance

Life insurance is an area that many people, especially younger people, tend to skimp on. Many feel that they don't really need life insurance until they are older, so there is no reason to start paying for it now, and others don't even give this issue a second thought. Truthfully, there is a reason for everyone to have life insurance - even if you are young and single. For starters, if you are young and single you still likely have family; family who would want to ensure that you have a proper funeral and burial, but all of that can be expensive. If you don't make sure that these expenses are taken care of while you are alive, then your family will end up footing a costly bill once you are gone.

The last thing you want to do is become a financial burden on your relatives once you are gone. They likely have their own financial issues to deal with and your lack of life insurance will just add to that stress. Since all you really need as a single person is a way to finance your final expenses (i.e. you won't be leaving anyone behind who relies on you for financial support), you can get a small policy that will be inexpensive - especially if you are very young. You can even plan your own arrangements to see how much it will cost and determine what benefit amount you need.

On the other hand, if you have a family of your own, life insurance will mean more to you (and to them) than just a way to pay for your final expenses, it will also be your way of protecting your family's financial security. If your family relies on your income for financial support, life insurance can be a way for them to continue receiving that support until they have a chance to adjust to surviving on their own without your income. You can even make sure that the benefit amount is enough to pay off your debt, so that they don't have to worry about that either.

Even if you don't provide your family with monetary support, such as in the case of a stay-at-home parent, money from a life insurance policy can allow your spouse to hire people to fill your roles (i.e. a housekeeper and a nanny) within the household until he or she has a chance to grieve and learns to manage the house and kids without you. What it comes down to is this, as an adult with a family you have a role to fill and, if you cannot fill that role anymore, your spouse may need additional resources to fill that gap until they are able to adjust and fill that gap themselves.

All in all, a life insurance policy should be a priority for every adult. After all, you don't want to leave your family holding expensive bills or unable to get by without you. A life insurance policy will allow you to live without worry, since you know that they will be protected if something does happen.
