Choosing health insurance can be a stressful experience, especially with the many health insurance providers in California. As a result, it's imperative that consumers carve out time to research and carefully consider their options to identify the best health insurance carrier for their needs: After all, your health and the health of your family depends on it.
The first step in finding the right health insurance for you and your family is to choose a reliable health insurance provider, with a proven track record, that can provide the kind of coverage for which you're looking. A health insurance provider since 1937, Blue Cross of California is the choice of many Californians. With the philosophy that consumer choice naturally leads to empowerment over healthcare decisions, Blue Cross of California provides a wide range of services for individuals and families, small groups,
employees, and senior citizens. In addition to providing health insurance, Blue Cross of California also offers dental plans, vision benefit plans, telemedicine services, a prescription drug benefits plan, and state-sponsored plans, including Medi-Cal and the Healthy Families Program.
Both PPO and HMO members of Blue Cross of California have access to some of the best preventative healthcare programs in the state, such as the Healthy Habits for Safe Kids, a free-PDF download that offers parents tips for keeping their children safe and injury-free. (Healthy Habits for Safe Kids is available in both English and Spanish.)
Keeping to its commitment to providing high quality service to consumers throughout California, Blue Cross of California continues to develop products and improve upon existing products. One of its most recent products will benefit all PPO members who are insured by Blue Cross of California or BC Life and Health Insurance Company: The Urgent Care Center Network is currently being developed to help ease the flow of patients into emergency rooms for non-emergency situations. The Urgent Care Center, with more than a hundred locations throughout California, will allow patients to get the care they need at a lower cost and with shorter waiting times. Additionally, patients do not need an appointment to access the care at the Urgent Care Center, affording them the opportunity to bypass their regular healthcare provider and the emergency room in non-emergency situations.
Women's health is also a priority with Blue Cross of California, which offers a free women's healthcare online newsletter in addition to a free 24-hour hotline, "Future Moms" that allows pregnant women, who are eligible, to call and discuss healthcare issues with members of the so-called Health Coach Team, which consists of registered nurses, health educators, respiratory therapists, and dieticians.
Intently focused on providing superior customer service, Blue Cross of California is accredited by the National Committee for Quality Assurance, has received an "excellent rating" for its HMO and POS products, and has received full accreditation for its PPO products. In addition, Blue Cross of California has been accredited by the URAC in disease management in relation to its diabetes, asthma, and congestive heart failure programs.
