Anthem Blue Cross of California Individual & Family Health Plans

Health insurance is a necessity for most individuals: Without adequate health insurance, medical bills can skyrocket virtually overnight. Choosing individual plans doesn't have to be a complicated or a stressful process if you first identify what you need from an individual health insurance plan.

When you choose a health insurance plan, you must take several factors into consideration, including extent of coverage, monthly cost, co-payment, deductible, and out-of-pocket expenses. Additionally, you must decide whether you would rather purchase a PPO or a HMO plan. A PPO plan is generally much more flexible, allowing members to go to a preferred or a non-preferred provider. However, going to a non-preferred provider generally means slightly higher costs. With a HMO plan, members must choose a provider that is in their network.

Anthem Blue Cross of California offers several PPO and HMO individual health insurance plans, including:

The Basic PPO and PPO Saver Plan
The Basic PPO and PPO Saver health insurance plans are designed to provide members with coverage for surgery and hospital stays, so should injury or illness strike, they won't sustain substantial financial losses. While the monthly premiums are low, the plans don't provide extensive coverage for professional services.

The PPO Share Plan
Anthem Blue Cross of California offers several PPO Share health insurance plans, each of which features comprehensive healthcare coverage. The amount of the deductible, the co-pay, and yearly out-of-pocket maximum costs are the key factors that distinguish the difference between the PPO Share Plans.

The PPO 3500 (HSA Compatible)
The PPO 3500 health insurance plan is designed to offer full coverage for most professional services once the designated deductible has been fulfilled. Additionally, because the PPO 3500 Plan requires a high deductible, it qualifies for establishing a Health Savings Account or HSA.

The 3500 Deductible PPO
Once members meet their deductible, they receive complete coverage for the majority of services. Monthly premiums are also designed to be affordable.

The Individual HMO
Once members meet their deductible, they receive complete coverage for the majority of services. Monthly premiums are also designed to be affordable.

The Select HMO
Members in the Select HMO Plan enjoy a wide range of professional services, typically with low monthly premiums and out-of-pocket expenses. With locations in 22 counties in California, the Select HMO Plan requires members to choose hospitals and doctors in the Select HMO Network.

The HMO Saver
While members of the HMO Saver Plan enjoy the same covered services as those in the Individual HMO plan, members of the HMO Saver Plan must pay a pre-determined deductible, so that monthly premiums can be kept low.

Finally, Anthem Blue Cross of California recognizes that every individual has specific needs. As a result, Anthem Blue Cross of California offers the Blue Cross Family Elect Program, which allows families to choose the best health insurance coverage, either PPO or HMO, for each member of the family. For example, you may opt for the Select HMO plan for your children; and the PPO Share 2500 plan for yourself and your spouse.
